In recent years, we have grown accustomed to sustainable finance and ESG investing featuring prominently in our horizon scanning efforts, often at the top of the legislative and regulatory agenda. While geopolitical changes and market developments have prompted a marked shift in focus in the European Commission (“Commission”) to promoting global competitiveness, ensuring simplification and burden reduction, and developing strategic autonomy, changes to the sustainable finance framework will be a continuing priority for the Commission and regulators, and therefore fund managers, in the coming months. Fund managers will also be interested in the impact of the development of the Savings and Investments Union on the funds industry and the outcome of significant legislative reviews, such as the review of the UCITS Eligible Assets Directive (“EAD”).
