Employee Wellbeing

A key priority for Matheson is the mental health and wellbeing of our employees.

Mindful Business Charter
In May 2020, we became signatories to the Mindful Business Charter (MBC), a set of best practice, behavioural principles to tackle and reduce avoidable stress in the workplace. Since then, we have built a committee of members from across the firm, including senior partners and business services leaders, who work together to actively promote the key principles of the MBC:
  • Openness and respect;
  • Smart meetings and communications;
  • Respecting rest periods; and
  • Mindful delegation.

Our 'Matheson Mindful Day', which is something we introduced during the COVID-19 pandemic, provides employees with an opportunity to switch off working for a day to recharge. Our colleagues are encouraged to reschedule non-urgent work and to use the time instead to completely unwind.

Elephant in the Room
In May 2024, Matheson announced its partnership with Elephant in the Room, the global mental health awareness campaign which uses art as a channel to break down barriers and encourage conversations about a topic that often goes unspoken.
Matheson is the first law firm in Ireland to partner with the Elephant in the Room organisation. Following a launch event in 2024, the winning name, Otto and design were unveiled at an event in the Dublin office which welcomed Brent Pope as guest speaker.
